Saltram Garden Bench
by jamb London
This magical garden bench is made from solid English oak. The carefully sandblasted finish emphasises the fretwork construction of the back and highlights the grain of this truly British timber. The original example came from Saltram House on the banks of the river Plym, Devon. Robert Adam remodelled the house during the 1760s and employed Thomas Chippendale to make much of the furniture.
Height 47¼in (120cm) width 70¾in (180cm) depth 23in (58.5cm) seat height 19in (48.2cm)

1820-Iron Chubb security gate
blacksmith iron work joined, no welding.
1818, Charles Chubb and his younger brother, Jeremiah Chubb, founded the Chubb Company and opened a workshop for making locks on Temple Street in Wolverhampton, England. Two years later, they opened a shop at 57 St.Paul's Churchyard in London.
In 1835, Charles Chubb expanded the business and took out a patent for a burglary-resistant safe. A safe works was opened shortly afterwards, in 1837, in London and in 1839 the brothers patented their first fire safe.
Following the death of Charles, the company remained in the family, being taken over by his son, John Chubb, in 1846, and then his grandchildren, John Charles, George Hayter and Harry Withers Chubb in 1872.
In 1882, the business became a private limited company and changed its name to Chubb & Sons Lock and Safe Company Ltd.
I"ve used this security gate for many years, I bought it from a farm on the Murray River at the time it was being used as a tennis court gate on the farm, I feel it had been shipped to Australia in very early times of occupation. maybe an early bank.
