Press Release 28h November 2023
Jamb Blankets by Sally Hampson
________
Last year, Charlotte decorated Aldourie Castle with her husband Will. This baronial castle– all towers and candle-snuffer turrets– rears up by the banks of Loch Ness, the roofline etched against the tawny tones of the hillside behind. Decorating the halls and drawing rooms of Aldourie, Charlotte sought to capture colours and rugged textures of the land that surrounds the castle, the horseback brown of the bracken.
The castle was entirely reimagined with an individual palette created for each of the twelve bedrooms, part of this was sourcing antique textiles and blankets for the end of each bed.
Where it was not possible to find an antique, Charlotte used the blankets woven by the artisan weaver Sally Hampson. It inspired Charlotte to make her own limited run of merino blankets in collaboration with her.
With the expertise and guidance of Sally, a limited run of three different designs have been created by dedicated craftsmen and women in a small Scottish mill. Such small-scale production with the traditional looms assures a Scottish blanket of unsurpassable quality.
Named the Ada check, Sadie stripe and the Edwin check, Charlotte has reflected the teal of Loch Ness in a yarn called waterfall, Scotland’s peaty earth in dark apple and horseback brown of the bracken in sorrel.
