Howard & Sons soft furnishings can be found in all the great country houses of Britain.
We have been delighted to find the name "Rothschild" on this chair when removed its upholstery from the back for the first time in its 130-140 years
At the time of the chair Howard & Sons had many projects on they may have put name on the chair in the work shop to keep aside most likely a sweet of furniture for the Rothschilds Mentmore Towers. The second word could be an abbreviation of a rooms name.
The mauve colour fabric most likely put over upholstery in the late 1970s it gos with the time of the auction of Mentmore's contents auction most likely carried out by the chairs new owner.
